LIM CHARLOTTE TURNS FRAGILITY INTO POWER WITH FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION, ‘IN VAIN IN VANITY’

IN VAIN IN VANITY showcases Lim Charlotte’s body of work which has two separate and distinct themes – strife in intimacy and the elucidation of self defying sexual affirmation. Dealing with the human body, Charlotte acknowledges that it can be symbolically dismantled and remodelled; and be grounded in new meaning. Recognising the notions of scale within spaces all matter inhabit; the minuscule, the vast, and everything in between, IN VAIN IN VANITY creates a dialogue around the fragility of traditionalism – striving to become both the content and its critique, adhering to classical norms while admonishing them.

Artist's Statement

Oh my god I am like so excited; this is like so cool. This is like my first solo show and like it’s my body on every piece. How narcissistic is that? So like, my body of work is inherently discordant, having distinctly separate themes – strife in intimacy and the elucidation of self defying sexual affirmation. My process as an artist is intrinsically informed by my personal experiences, such as dealing with addiction and emotional instability. I approach my works as if they are diary entries, documenting a timeline of my varying emotional dispositions and attempting to physically manifest solace.
