UltraSuperNew presents visual artist and motion graphics designer Reza Hasni’s first solo show. A humorous mystical meditation filled with stories, legends and myths, Reza is showing a broad range of work across various mediums spanning ink on paper and ceramics, gouache on paper, and digital prints on cotton and silk textiles. A collage of all the tales he is presenting, the show also features an interactive mural inviting viewers to complete the artwork by applying colour to the piece.

All artworks on show are one of a kind and available for sale.

Exhibition Outline

Mystic Island is a tongue-in-cheek illustrated journal of my interactions with spiritual people in Singapore. From numerologists, Chinese “suan ming” fortune tellers, parrot astrologers, to people who believe they are the reincarnation of stars in the cosmos, I have collected bizarre stories of their metaphysical experiences and learnt more about the forgotten myths and legends our island harbours. Spirituality is very new to me and while I do find these practices amusing, I have kept an open mind and studied them further by drawing my reactions. With this first solo show, I have decided to detach myself from these narratives to start a new chapter by selling all the works in my possession. Without intellectualising anything, the stories in these pieces have guided their form and I would like the viewer to smile or laugh along with me.

Artist Profile

Reza Hasni

Born and raised in Singapore, Reza Hasni began his creative career as a motion graphics artist in 2007. Over 10 years, seven of which he spent cutting his teeth in the nightlife industry, he has developed a “noisy and chaotic” collage style in his illustration and motion graphic practice. His most pronounced influences are music, club culture and 90s internet pop culture.

Reza’s work has been featured on international broadcast media outlets like Discovery Channel USA, National Geographic and MTV (Asia), as well as print publications such as Rosebud (Austria), Curvy (Australia), Communallove (New Zealand), Juice (Singapore) and Kult (Singapore). He also has extensive experience supplying visuals and artwork to nightlife and entertainment events including the Penang Design & Noise Festival (2003), Singapore Arts Show (2005), Zouk Hip Hop Annual Festival (2006), ZoukOut (2010-2011), and Super0 Festival Singapore (2013-2015).
